Microsoft Defender for Endpoint

New Antivirus Software

On Monday, June 20, OIT will begin uninstalling McAfee (the current antivirus software) and deploying Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on all Windows operating systems managed by the university.

On-Campus and Hybrid Technology Resources

Workstations

If you are returning to campus after a long period of remote work, please note that your office computer may no longer be connected to the university domain.

Contact your school or department IT resource or the OIT Service Desk to have the computer rejoined to the university domain.


Network Connectivity

 

 

In-Person

Your previous network connection should still be active if you have an on-campus computer.

If you are connecting with a mobile device, you may be prompted to update to your most recent password.

Hybrid

Connect to the university's network using the VPN or virtual desktop on your laptop or mobile device. Multi-factor authentication with Duo is required to safely use the VPN. 

Many resources, such as Microsoft 365 apps (including Outlook Email and Teams), Zoom, and Canvas, don't require the use of VPN.


Authentication

 

Be sure you have your user name and password handy when accessing the university web login portal (UCDAccess). Forgot your password? You can reset it from the Password Reset page. Verify that you can authenticate to multi-factor authentication (MFA) with Duo whether on-campus or off-campus. MFA is required with:

  • GlobalProtect for VPN
  • VMWare Horizon for remote desktop
  • Microsoft 365 applications
  • Employee and student portals

File Sharing and Data Storage

 

File sharing and data storage options are available whether working on-campus or off-campus. These include:

  • OneDrive for Business 
  • Teams
  • Department Network Folders (Isilon)

Meetings

 

In-Person

For on-campus meetings, conference rooms and AV support can be scheduled using the EMS Web App. Conference rooms also can be configured to host meetings with remote attendees through the EMS room scheduling system.

Hybrid

For hybrid and remote meetings, continue using Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Be sure your technology and internet is properly set-up. You can also visit the OIT remote work considerations webpage for additional suggestions about your home workspace.


Office Phones

 

In-Person

If you submitted a request to disconnect your office phone while working remotely, please contact the OIT Service Desk to request reactivation of the service. Visit the OIT services webpage for more information. If you didn't disconnect your office phone, it should be active.

Hybrid

You can set up your office phone to work on your university laptop by using Cisco Jabber. Jabber will not interfere with the function of your office phone whether you are working remotely or on-campus.

Canvas

Regardless of the course modality, all courses will continue to have a course shell in Canvas. You can use Canvas to share files, host asynchonous discussions, have students submit assignments/take quizzes, and provide grades and assessment feedback.

Need assistance or would like to continue to expand your use of Canvas or other technologies, schedule a meeting with the Academic Technology Team or attend a training. 


Audio Visual Services and Support

  • Audiovisual (AV) equipment and support is available for on-campus events by submitting a request through the EMS room scheduling system. Faculty on the CU Denver campus also can schedule the Zoom Camera system to record lectures through the EMS room scheduling system.

  •  

  • Need additional support? Schedule a room tutorial to gain hands on experience and training from an AV expert to make the most of your classroom technology. Questions about AV support should be directed to the proper campus team.

On-Campus and Hybrid Technology Planning

  • Make sure your laptop or desktop computer is updated and configured with the latest software and updated operating systems to optimize performance and prevent unexpected technical issues. OIT includes a table of recommended device and operating systems for improved functionality. Please contact your school / department IT support team or the OIT Service Desk if you need additional assistance.
  • Faculty can make the most of available academic technology services on both the CU Denver and CU Anschutz Medical Campus. Register and attend training for Canvas, Blackboard Ally, Hypothesis or other academic technology training. Need additional assistance? Schedule time to meet with an academic technology expert to make sure your class is ready to go in Canvas (regardless of course modality), and answer any questions.
  • Having issues with your classroom technology? Each classroom podium contains a sign with contact information for support. Please call immediately, according to the signage in the room. Depending on your location, a support professional from OIT, a departmental IT team member, or AHEC (if on the CU Denver campus) will assist you.
  • Beginning Monday, July 18, 2022, university credentials (your username and password) will be required to log into shared computers in Anschutz Medical Campus classrooms and conference rooms.
