The Office of Equity (OE) offers a variety of supportive measures to ensure all members of the CU Denver and CU Anschutz community have access to a safe and nondiscriminatory environment. The OE considers the needs of all involved parties; providing resources for individuals who have experienced behavior prohibited under applicable policies (reporting party/complainant) and those accused of prohibited conduct (responding party).
Regardless of the party's role on campus, we coordinate with offices across campus to help individuals remain in school or at work. The OE is equipped to provide assistance through our office and/or through other offices on and off campus.
Whether or not the person who engaged in the alleged prohibited behavior against you is part of the CU Denver and/or CU Anschutz community, we are here to help you.
Our office will work with you through the initial intake to discuss the available supportive measures and to address any safety concerns, with the hope that you will be able to continue your academic pursuits, or employment (if you choose to) with as little interruption as possible.
We will consider any requests and make the determination as to whether or not the request is reasonable, and whether or not the University is able to accommodate the request considering the individual circumstances. In cases where serious or imminent threat to you or the campus community exists, we may consider taking actions such as building, location, or campus exclusions.
You do not need to initiate a formal complaint or participate in an investigation to access our supportive measures. However, if the information you share with us leads us to believe that others may be in immediate danger, we may be obligated by law to move forward with an investigation, with or without your participation. In these rare cases, we will work with you and notify you when we are obligated to move forward and will continue to inform you of the steps moving forward.
If the person you are reporting is not a CU student, faculty, or staff member (or you aren’t sure), we can still help you. If you need support around missed classes, late assignments, time off from work, or other campus related needs to help you feel safe moving forward, we want to help.
Supportive and safety measures refer to non-disciplinary, non-punitive individualized services offered as appropriate, as reasonably available, and without fee or charge to the complainant or the respondent that are designed to restore or preserve equal access to the University’s education program or activity without unreasonably burdening the other party, including measures designed to protect the safety of all parties or the University’s educational or work environment, or deter misconduct. These include measures designed to address the well-being and continued access to educational opportunities or employment and ensure the safety of the parties and/or community.
