Provides comprehensive training in applied mathematics and/or statistics, making graduates highly marketable in industry and academia. In addition to coursework, students engage in cutting-edge research in collaboration with leading scholars in a broad range of areas, including discrete mathematics, numerical analysis, operations research, and statistics.

At CU Denver, we offer two options within the civil engineering PhD program. The doctor of philosophy in civil engineering is a technical degree intended for students with an undergraduate degree in engineering. The doctor of philosophy in civil engineering systems is a more flexible degree intended for students with undergraduate degrees in other fields such as science, mathematics, or economics. This program is administered jointly with the University of Colorado Boulder.

Students become skilled in drawing on theories and methods from the social, behavioral, and health sciences to understand health, health behaviors, and health care. Our graduates are leaders in analyzing the conditions that give rise to the inequitable distribution of health within and across populations.

Trains scientists to engage in modern economic research related to the health care sector and to personal and public health. The coursework grounds students in rigorous economic theory and modern statistical methods and connects them to institutional details of the health care sector, administrative data methods, grant writing, and the development of interdisciplinary health care research.

Prepares students to use a variety of approaches and techniques for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating a range of psychological disturbances. Because the program places an emphasis on health, students are also trained to assess the psychological factors associated with different medical problems and learn to design effective interventions integrating biological, psychological, and social factors.
