CLIENT UPDATE: Customizing a Communication Device for Employment
Featuring Aleaza Goldberg, MA, CCC-SLP
Aug 19, 2021In CIDE’s Spring 2021 CommunicATor newsletter, we shared the story of Eliane Kleingeld, a 71-year-old ICU Nurse with 47 years of experience.
After undergoing a total Laryngectomy, leaving her with no voice, Eliane was referred to CIDE’s Assistive Technology Clinic for an Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) Evaluation. After a comprehensive AAC Evaluation followed by device trials, Ms. Kleingeld found that the Wego 7A device by TalkToMeTechnologies worked best to support her communication needs. After explicit training with her Speech and Language Pathologist at CIDE, Aleaza Goldberg, Ms. Kleingeld had customized her device with pre-stored personal and professional phrases to be used in a job interview as she was seeking employment.
CIDE is excited to announce that since our last newsletter was distributed, and after a successful interview using her pre-programmed AAC device, Eliane was offered a full-time position at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, CO on July 28, 2021. Congratulations, Eliane!
