Finding a community with others is a vital part of the college experience and we are here to help you find friends and common ground through fun campus service events, the development of your interpersonal skills and opportunities to dive into deep conversations about the world we live in.
CU Denver has over 130 student clubs and organizations, many of which do regular community service projects and give back to the community. Check out MyLynx to search for organizations that give back to causes you care about! You can look through all the organizations or sort by "community service/volunteerism" and quickly find groups that volunteer in the community in some manner.
We also host regular leadership workshops in one-time and semester-long formats so you can sharpen the skills needed to be an effective force for change in the world.
Conversations for Social Change is a dinner discussion event where we explore solutions and trade-offs to complex social issues. Participants are arranged into diverse, dynamic groups from different perspectives to talk about various ways to tackle problems such as violence in communities, food insecurity, constitutional and civil rights, and climate change with the intent to have productive, constructive, solution-oriented conversations while considering concerns and differing viewpoints.
These facilitated conversations create a space for you to practice skills of real-world social networking, public speaking, and public deliberation skills in a structured manner. No prior expertise on the subject is required, just a willingness to listen and share.
This springs Conversations for Social Change event will be in connection to the national program "Congress To Campus." CU Denver, MSU Denver, and the Community College of Denver will be co-hosting Congress To Campus on April 16-17, 2024. This program brings two former members of the United States Congress and students will be able to discuss social issues that are meaningful to them.
