IRC Faculty Professional Development Grant 

The CFDA's IRC Faculty Professional Development Grant (IRCF-PDG) provides professional development support to all Instructional, Research and Clinical Teaching Track Faculty at the University of Colorado Denver (Denver Campus). This includes Lecturers, Instructors, Senior Instructors, Principal Instructors, and Teaching Professor Track (formerly known as Clinical Teaching Track) Faculty. (Note: Graduate students in a teaching role are not eligible for this grant.) 

The IRCF-PDG is funded by the Office of the Provost and administered by the CFDA in collaboration with UCDALI. The total amount of available funding per academic year is $20,000. Half of this amount is earmarked for lecturers. The other half is allocated to Instructors, Senior Instructors and TPT Faculty. Faculty Applicants: IRC faculty may apply for professional development funds of up to $1,000 for activities or materials that support any aspect of the duties outlined in their current contract or letter of offer. Individual applicants may receive funding only once per academic year. Funded activities and materials might include but are not limited to the following:

Conference participation (such as presenting a paper/poster, moderating a session, etc.)

Attending/participating in professional development trainings, workshops, certification programs, etc.

Purchasing books, software, or specialized equipment for teaching and/or (if applicable) research purposes

Faculty Applicants in a PhD Program: IRC faculty members working on their PhD may apply for this grant. However, funding must be directed at activities that enhance pedagogical practices in the classroom. Grants for the professional development of students are made available by the Office of Graduate Education.

Administrative Applicants: Administrators of units, schools or colleges (Deans, Associate Deans or Chairs) may apply for IRCF professional development funds of up to $1,000 for activities or materials that support the development and advancement of IRC faculty in their units. Administrative applicants may receive funding only once per academic year, and MUST provide matching funds from their unit, school or college. Documentation for matching funds from schools/departments must accompany this application. Funded activities might include but are not limited to the following:

Supporting IRC faculty participation in pedagogy-focused conferences or workshops (ex: American Education Research Conference; The Thinking Professor)

Preparing unit specific orientation material for IRC faculty

Organizing an event to recognize and celebrate IRC faculty’s contributions

Application Process:

Applications for CFDA IRCF-PD Funds must include the following:

  • An application through Formstack
  • A statement (500 words max) detailing how funds will be used, how the funded activity aligns with the applicant’s official responsibilities (as outlined in contract/letter of offer) OR supports IRC faculty in the applicant’s unit (for administrative applicants), and the anticipated outcomes/impact for the applicant/IRC faculty and CU Denver community
  • A budget itemizing total costs for the activity/material(s)
  • For faculty applicants: A letter of support from the applicant’s chair/primary unit head (or other primary supervisor) and upload it with their application. The letter of support template is available here.
  • For administrative applicants: Confirmation from the unit, school or college of the availability of matching funds.

Outcomes and Reporting

Recipients must submit a report (max 300 words) to the CFDA within one month of the conclusion of their funded project (no later than June 30th) describing the use of funds, the outcomes achieved, and a final itemized budget.

Notes:

  • Funds must be expended within the fiscal year in which you have been awarded. Funds will not roll over.
  • For AY25, grant funds must be spent by May 1, 2025.
