International Executive Roundtables
Since 1989, the Institute for International Business has hosted the International Executive Roundtable lecture series for university students, staff, faculty, and members of the international business community. These events serve as a forum in which executives and government officials meet with university faculty, staff, and students to discuss timely issues in international business. They also educate students, staff, and faculty about international business practices and provide exposure to the experiences of executives in the global marketplace. International Executive Roundtables allow lecturers to speak on real world scenarios and pass valuable research insights on to faculty.
The IIB designates featured lectures by renowned speakers as distinguished lectures: Robert Reynolds Distinguished Lecture (led and hosted by CU Denver's Business School), The Greg and Carol Jemal-Gibson Distinguished Lecture, and the Burton Boothby Distinguished Lecture.

Program Overview
In this presentation, Dr. Lemery will dive into the stress that our ecosystems are now under and how it is affecting the widescale human suffering. He will examine the record heat exposures, flooding episodes, wildfires, hurricanes, and forced displacement that are increasingly exacerbating health disparities, predominantly in our most vulnerable populations. Finally, Dr. Lemery will highlight the need for resilient healthcare systems and credible, knowledgeable and effective health leaders to understand the health risks and help advance smart health policy.
Jay Lemery, MD
Jay Lemery, MD, is the Climate & Health Foundation Endowed Chair in Climate Medicine, and Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He serves as the Chief of the Section of Wilderness and Environmental Medicine, and faculty in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the Colorado School of Public Health. Dr. Lemery was a past-president of the Wilderness Medical Society.
Dr. Lemery has expertise in austere and remote medical care, as well as the effects of climate change on human health. At the University of Colorado, Dr. Lemery co-founded the Climate & Health Program, based at the School of Medicine. In partnership with the Climate & Health Foundation and CU faculty, he inaugurated the nation’s first graduate medical education climate & health science policy fellowship for physicians in 2017, in partnership with numerous federal agencies and nonprofits. In fall 2022, the program launched the ‘Diploma in Climate Medicine’ for healthcare providers, the first of its kind at a School of Medicine, offering a distinction for expertise and leadership in this novel field.
In 2017, Dr Lemery co-authored ‘Enviromedics: The Impact of Climate Change on Human Health.’ Prior to that, co-edited ‘Global Climate Change and Human Health: From Science to Practice’, now in its second edition. Dr. Lemery was a technical contributor to the 13 U.S. Federal Agency, ‘Fourth National Climate Assessment’ (2018), and co-author on the landmark New England Journal of Medicine study on Excess Mortality in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. From 2011-2016, he was a consultant for the Climate and Health Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Dr. Lemery is currently the Medical Director for the National Science Foundation’s Polar Research program and Associate Element Scientist of the Exploration Medical Capability Element of NASA’s Human Research Program. From 2014-2016, he was the EMS Medical Director for the United States Antarctic Program. He is a Fellow at the Payne Institute for Public Policy at the Colorado School of Mines and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (FXB Center), where he is a contributing editor for its Journal, ‘Health and Human Rights,’ and was Guest Editor for the special edition on ‘Climate Justice.’
Dr. Lemery is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and in 2021, was elected to the National Academy of Medicine.
