Local Organizations

• Creative Strategies for Change mobilizes arts and education for social justice.
  
• Soul 2 Soul Sisters are faith-based Black organizing leaders. They also lead anti-racism courses and provide a place for non-Black allies to deepen their internal work around dismantling racist oppression.
• YAASPA (Young Aspiring Americans for Social and Political Activism) works in Aurora and Denver schools to encourage and support disengaged and underserved youth to participate and make change in their communities socially and politically.
• Black Lives Matter 5280 works to build more loving and united Black communities while eliminating anti-Black violence and racism. They are raising funds for bail, legal support, and provision of direct services for Black people impacted by the current and ongoing crisis.

National Organizations

• Showing up for Racial Justice is a national organization that moves White people to act as part of a multi-racial majority to undermine White supremacy and work toward racial justice.
• The Anti-Defamation League exposes extremism, delivers anti-bias education, and works with communities and law enforcement to identify hate and mobilize people to work vigorously against it.
• Color of Change is the nation’s largest online racial justice organization. It designs campaigns to end practices that unfairly hold Black people back and to champion solutions that move us all forward.
• The NAACP is holding Juneteenth events, film screenings, town hall discussions, and other activities. Its We Are Done Dying campaign encourages sending messages to your Congressional representatives.

Food Bank of the Rockies (FBR) is the largest private hunger-relief organization in the state of Colorado. Their mission is to end hunger by efficiently procuring and distributing food to the hungry through programs and member agencies. Volunteer opportunities include pulling and building orders from the warehouse inventory, as well as inspecting and sorting donated food items. *For every individual volunteer commitment, our university will accumulate credit to purchase food to help stock our own on-campus food pantry. Be sure to mention you are volunteering on behalf of CU Denver.

Addiction Research & Treatment Services (ARTS) is the clinical program of the Division of Substance Dependence, Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine. The mission of ARTS is to improve the quality of life and productivity of individuals and families affected by substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders through the application of scientifically supported prevention, education, and treatment services. ARTS provides residential treatment programs for women (Haven) and men (Peer 1), as well as an adolescent outpatient treatment program (Synergy) and 4 adult outpatient treatment programs in the Denver area.

Colorado Youth Congress

Many of the problems we face today are systemic in nature (widening inequality, rising health care costs, climate change, mass incarceration) yet we're not developing young people's ability to understand or solve these wicked problems. The Colorado Youth Congress organizes and trains high school students to lead systemic change. We recruit high school students from urban, suburban and rural Colorado to gather and build authentic relationships, set a public agenda, and lead campaigns to bring about long-lasting positive change.

Volunteer Opportunities:
We'd love to have support from the CU community to serve as guest speakers, coaches, evaluators, consultants, or general operational support.

Event Support:
• The members of the Colorado Youth Congress gather Saturdays throughout the course of the year. Coaches would be asked to provide ongoing support for one semester, whereas evaluators and consultants are needed on an ad-hoc basis.

Group:
• Groups can participate as evaluators and with general event support.

Individual:
•  Individuals can participate as guest speakers, coaches, evaluators, consultants, or general operational support.

Warren Village implements a comprehensive two-generation (2Gen) approach that provides opportunities and resources to empower families to change their life trajectory. Warren Village offers a safe place to call home; wrap-around family support services including workforce training, educational advancement, and life-skills classes; and a nationally accredited early learning center. Warren Village has been a trusted partner in the Denver community since 1974.
