Digital Literacy

A Curriculum for Colorado Medicaid Members

What is Digital Literacy for Medicaid Members?

CIDE pioneered a digital literacy curriculum to empower individuals receiving Medicaid long-term services and support. This curriculum is based on foundational skills, access to online healthcare resources and promoting digital equity. It is an iPad-based learning experience that was delivered to pilot program participants by actively engaged digital literacy coaches through the Digital Literacy eLearning Program on CIDE's learning management system, moodle.cide-learning.com.

You can learn more about how the digital divide impacts people with disabilities in Colorado by reading our literature review.

Our customized, person-first curriculum is based on a comprehensive analysis of the technology landscape and extensive stakeholder engagement and includes a Train the Trainer module for seamless delivery. Our work includes a pilot project with 30 participants that will demonstrate the curriculum's efficacy in improving digital literacy with results guiding future recommendations and modifications for a more inclusive digital healthcare experience.

Our Approach

Use the Curriculum

Are you new to technology? The Digital Literacy e-Learning Program on Moodle is designed specifically for individuals who are just starting their journey into the digital world. Built on insights from a pilot program funded by the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, this curriculum is tailored to help you build foundational digital skills with the guidance you need to succeed.

The curriculum is:

  • Self-Paced: Learn at your own speed.
  • Coach-Guided: Work with your own Digital Literacy Coach to maximize your experience.
  • Practical Skills: Start with foundational courses, then explore elective topics as they become available.

What You’ll Need to Get Started:

  • Your Own Equipment: The lessons are optimized for 9th Generation Apple iPads but can also apply to other devices like smartphones, laptops, and tablets.
  • Your Own Coach: The best way to succeed is with a Digital Literacy Coach—someone to guide and support you through the lessons. While funding for this program has ended and we cannot provide iPads or coaching services, the curriculum is freely available to coaches or learners who want to take advantage of it independently. Partners interested in accessing coaching materials can contact us.
