Cliff is a five-year-old with limited mobility who was referred to the CIDE Assistive Technology clinic for a wheelchair seating and mobility evaluation. After an evaluation by CIDE Occupational Therapist Becky Breaux, she determined he was a good candidate to trial the new Permobil Explorer Mini. This device is designed for young children with mobility impairments to learn mobility, independence, and provides an opportunity to explore their environments. After taking it home, Cliff experienced immediate success and was able to navigate around his house and explore independently. According to Becky Breaux, “It was exciting to see him up and moving. This wouldn’t have been possible without the opportunity to borrow the device from the Tech for Tykes Loan Library.
