The Digital Strategy Task Force report recommended that CU Denver complete a classroom audit that could inform a roadmap for technology upgrades in order to ensure appropriate classroom technology for teaching across modalities.
Phase 1 included initial data gathering and collecting feedback about cross-disciplinary classroom needs. An audit of CU Denver owned classrooms was conducted by Corey Parham, Assistant Director of Service Delivery and Operations in Denver’s Office of Information Technology. The initial data collection was guided by the following questions:
On November 1, 2022, Corey Parham and Katie Linder presented preliminary findings from data collected on the 96 CU Denver classrooms and discussed some possible next steps for the classroom technology audit project. For those not able to attend, a recording of the session can be found below.
Phase 2 of the project moved from data gathering and planning to implementation. Based on feedback from faculty members in phase 1 of the project, a tiered structure was developed for classroom upgrades (see table below). This tiered structure represents basic upgrades for all classrooms (tier 1) and more advanced upgrades (tier 2) that may be applied to some classrooms based on institutional need.
The first 23 CU Denver owned classrooms will be upgraded to tier 1 in the summer 2024. After gathering additional feedback, the exact number of tier 1 and tier 2 classrooms will be determined during phase 3.
*Larger classrooms will be equipped with dual projectors and projection screens
A proof-of-concept room for tier 2 upgrades was installed to demonstrate the capabilities used in hybrid and distance learning. Additional feedback on tier 2 technology will be gathered in phase 3 (see more below). If you would like to test out the new classroom technology, please use EMS (schedule.ucdenver.edu) to schedule North Classroom, Room 1405. This room features:
The project leads worked with facilities, faculty and administration to determine funding and determine a plan for the classroom technology upgrades. The first 23 classrooms upgraded are in the North Classroom. The upgrades will take place during the summer 2024 and will be ready for the fall semester. These classrooms will be upgraded with tier 1 technology. Priority for future classroom upgrades are being determined.
Phase 3 of this project will begin in the Fall 2024. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate in upcoming feedback sessions and events geared towards exploring teaching and learning needs related to digital connections for various devices, image projection needs, and equipment needed for teaching in flexible hybrid modalities, among other topics.
