The CU Denver Office of Undergraduate Admissions is your one stop shop for all your transfer admission needs and resources. We are fully committed to delivering an unparalleled student experience and are excited to help you start your journey here at CU Denver!

Located across from the Lynx Center on the first floor of the Student Commons Building, we have a dedicated staff of transfer professionals waiting to assist you at every step of the admissions process. Drop in our office M-F between 8am-5pm or call us directly at 303-315-2601 to speak with a live staff member. You can email us anytime or contact IT Support if you are experiencing technical difficulties with one of our systems.

We are equally invested in your wellness and offer a wide range of support services to make sure your transition here is smooth and successful. I love the diversity of students that I get to meet and interact with daily. There is a space and place for everyone on our campus regardless of your background or identity.

Top tips for incoming students

Join at least two clubs! Join one for academic interest and one just for fun. This will allow you to make connections/ friends inside of your designated school as well as around campus. My closet friends from college were all made because I showed up to a club meeting!

Favorite downtown hobby/attraction/restaurant/venue/etc.?

Rec sports with VOLO, dancing at the Grizzly Rose, concerts at Red Rocks or Mission Ballroom, Rockies games, and ice cream from Little Man!

Where are you from any what brought you to CO (if not a CO native):

I was born and raised in San Jose, California. My first time in Colorado was to attend the LYNX National Arts and Media camp while I was still in high school. From that moment forward I knew this was the school for me, and I moved to attend CU Denver in 2017.

Major/ Field of study in counselor’s undergrad?

I graduated with a BA in Psychology with a Minor in Philosophy from CU Denver in 2021.

Favorite thing about CU Denver:

I love that instead of throwing our tuition money toward expensive stadiums and other flashy selling points, CU Denver puts their funding into great programs that help students find success both during and after graduation. It really feels like the smartest economical decision I ever made.

Tips for incoming students:

Sign up for an FYE/UNIV class in your first semester. If you don't know what this is, please ask your advisor when registering for classes. These classes include a student-employee that will help you find ways to get involved, connect you to campus resources, and advocate for your success however possible. It really is the best way to get introduced to our University and ensure your success.

Favorite dowtown hobby/attraction/restaurant/venue/etc?

Definitely the Mercury Cafe. Live music, dance classes, ethically sourced food, and a thriving, welcoming community of kind-hearted people.

About Will:

I love to see as much live music as possible, especially my musician friends who play downtown a lot. I try to be very outdoorsy, so when I find the chances, I love to go backpacking, camping, mountain biking or hiking. I'm a huge fan of Jazz, R&B, and Grunge/Post Grunge music.

Where are you from any what brought you to CO (if not a CO native):

I am originally from India and moved to the States in 2013 and have been native to Flagstaff, AZ for 6 years. I moved to CO from Flagstaff Arizona recently to grow professionally and personally. Another reason to move to Denver is its diverse beauty and lively community vibe as well as a broad and fun opportunity to grow in different parts of society. My multiple experiences in working with higher education brought me to work with CU Denver as an Admission counselor. I have been an Administration assistant for the Center for International Education and an Academic Advisor, and I love working with students to help them choose the right path for their big college experience. And there won’t be a better place to be than CU Denver and I am very excited to be here.

Favorite thing about CU Denver:

The location. CU Denver is beautifully located in the heart of downtown which opens multiple amazing doors from food to working opportunities to engaging with the fun downtown community. Another thing I admire a lot about CU Denver is its urban campus itself. What a vibrant and beautiful campus to work for.

Tips for incoming students:

Never get afraid, ask questions, and explore opportunities. As my co-worker Beth Moore says, explore two clubs while you are here: one for academic related and one for fun. College is not just all about studies and getting a good GPA; it is a huge part of your life experience where you will learn about relationships, society, your own hidden talents, lifetime friends and most importantly you will learn about your own self. So go out there and explore and you will succeed; not just in academics but in life.

Transfer admission requirements

If you are transferring, you should have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 from a regionally accredited college (or colleges) to be considered for admission. CU Denver Engineering and Architecture programs have higher transfer admission requirements. If you do not meet the program transfer admission requirements you could still be considered for admission to the "pre-" program.

We need to receive official, sealed transcripts from any educational institution you have attended, except other CU System campuses. If you have less than 24 college credit hours, we must receive your official high school transcripts. Note we can accept unofficial transcripts for the review of the application. We do not require ACT/SAT test scores.

"Initiated" or "missing credentials" does not necessarily mean we haven't received that particular piece. We recommend you give your submittals at least three weeks to show up on your Application Status page. If your items still show up as "initiated" or "missing" and you submitted them more than sixty days ago, email the Office of Admissions or call at 303-315-2601 to see if we can locate them for you. If you have a different last name on any transcript or item, please notify us so we can consolidate your items under your current last name.

To establish Colorado residency for tuition purposes, you (or your parents, if you are an unemancipated minor) must have maintained a domicile in Colorado for at least one year prior to the term you are claiming in-state classification. For most applicants, permanent residence and the intent to make Colorado one's permanent home must be in evidence before the one-year waiting period can begin.

CU Denver will consider general education courses with an earned C- from any regionally accredited institution. The Office of the Registrar will conduct a transfer credit evaluation a week after admission and with receipt of official, sealed transcripts. Once a transfer credit evaluation is conducted, your Academic Advisor will decide how these credits will apply toward your degree.
