Career Path Planning

“What do I do with my life?” can be one of the most disheartening questions for anyone, especially students. There is an increasing amount of pressure put on students to know what they want to do with their careers when entering college even though many adults in the working world don’t even know what they want to do with their lives. This presentation will help students discover what options are out there and help alleviate some of the stress of career path planning. Degrees can lead to many different careers and the Career Center can help students plan for their futures.

Identify a Career in your Major

The vast list of majors that CU Denver offers can be very daunting to first year students. Degrees can lead to many different careers and it is important to begin planning your career path and exploring what options are out there early! This presentation will include a lot of reflection and self-exploration of values, strengths and interests, as well as, how students can connect those aspects of who they are with a career.

Strengths & Career Development

As CU Denver transitions to “Strengths-Based Campus,” the Career Center feels it is increasingly important to help students discover and live in their strengths. Students thrive when they work with the strengths rather than constantly trying to improve weaknesses. This presentation will be reflective for students about what their strengths are and how they can use them in their academic and professional careers!

Resumes, Cover Letters, and C.V.'s

This presentation gives students an in-depth introduction to resume basics. Whether they are just creating a resume or are looking to revise their current resume, this presentation can help them! We discuss everything from formatting to writing strong bullets to targeting their documents for specific jobs.

This presentation will give students the most effective way to search for jobs or internships while encouraging them to come to our office for more guidance and resources.

Networking & Social Media

This presentation gives students the resources to find professionals to connect with. It also teaches skills around professional conversations and how to reach out to professionals. Social media is a means of networking and thus can be covered on its own or as part of the networking presentation.

Interviewing Strategies

Interviewing can be incredibly nerve-wracking. This presentation will give students insight into what employers are looking for during an interview, how to answer interview questions and examples of questions that real employers ask! After our staff comes to your class, your students will feel prepared for any interview!

Services Overview

How can we individually serve your students? Every student has unique needs when it comes to career development and job searching – this presentation gives an overview of our services and encourages students to utilize our services as they near the end of their academic journey.

Handshake Guide/Finding a Job On-Campus

Informational Interviewing

Informational interviews are one of the best and simplest way to gain first-hand information about a career path or industry. This presentation will give students the resources to find professionals, tips on how to reach out and professional questions to ask. Most importantly, we will walk students through the process of deciding who they would interview!

Graduate School Preparation & Exploration

Are your students thinking of going to graduate school? Does the preparation for graduate school overwhelm them? This workshop provides student the opportunity to explore what they want out of graduate school and provides resources to navigate the graduate school process.

Undergraduate Research | Introduction & Opportunities

This presentation covers what undergraduate research looks like at CU Denver, the opportunities for funding through the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities, and next steps for those looking to get involved with research.

Would you be interested in an employer coming to your classroom?*
This is a new initiative through the Career Center as we believe professionals from various industries can offer a great deal of valuable knowledge and experience to students in the classroom. This is not designed to be an advertisement for a job or company but rather an opportunity for employers to share their professional experiences and expertise on a topic within the discipline that fits with the syllabus. Please note: employers may not be available in your field or during the time frame selected. In that case, our Peer Advisor will be in touch to find an alternative.
Which industry? (Please make up to 4 selections)*
