Navigating COVID-19 in the Classroom

If a student in your class or an employee in your unit informs you they have tested positive for COVID-19, remind them they must stay home, and they can use the CDC Isolation and Exposure Calculator to help determine how long to isolate.

It is NEVER ok to share the name of a positive student or employee to the class or work unit.

If you have a question about a student or employee’s status, email the Public Health Response Director: Lacey.Klindt@ucdenver.edu

Please work with your student with any makeup work and/or missed exams.

Treatments Available for Individuals Sick With COVID-19

If you test positive, or think you might have COVID-19, you may be able to get treatment to help you recover. Treatment works best if it’s taken within a few days of when you first started experiencing symptoms.

Lynx Together Faculty FAQs

Please visit the Faculty page for guidance

Each campus determines their guidelines based on their unique location and student body. We will continue to make informed, data-driven decisions based on our Denver location.

No. Faculty should not ask questions about a student’s vaccine status.

Yes. COVIDCheck Colorado will continue to serve as CU Denver’s testing center, and there will be a testing site on campus as well as several off campus sites.

Registration for fall 2021 courses is now open for all students. The course format can be reviewed for each offering by viewing the instruction mode within the class/section details.

Should any changes be required to a course after registration has taken place, a notification will be sent to all students enrolled in the course. We will also send a communication to all students in July to remind them to review their schedules regarding the details of their courses.

On-campus activities will resume, and venues and classrooms will be scheduled at full capacity, in accordance with public health guidelines.

If the course is scheduled as on-campus or hybrid and the syllabi is clear about taking the exam on-campus, yes. However, if a student cannot come to campus because they are ill or in quarantine, you should work with the student to find an alternative. If your course is remote or online, no.

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, in collaboration with members of the Safe Return Teaching and Learning Implementation team, has prepared a Faculty Toolkit with a checklist to help faculty prepare to teach online and remote classes, a webpage devoted to Rapid Remote Teaching Resources, and a self-paced course on designing and teaching a virtual course that you can enroll in here.

Additionally, you can book appointments now with CETL staff for further guidance.

The Office of Information Technology also has a great webpage on Teaching Remotely. They provide access to resources from CU Denver and from other institutions.

Sign up for a training from the Office of Digital Education. Their Online Skills Mastery course is a great overview of teaching online. You can also check out their online teaching blog.

Want to go deeper? Become a Thinqstudio Faculty Fellow.

You can find Canvas and Zoom resources from the Office of Information Technology. Your Canvas course shell also contains links to Canvas guides and FAQs, at the bottom of the left hand bar. The Office of Digital Education frequently offers workshops on using Canvas and Zoom.

Please reach out to the COVID-19 Case Manager Lacey.Klindt@cuanschutz.edu or fill out a COVID-Support Navigation Form.
