The University of Colorado system is currently comprised of three institutions with distinct campuses at four geographically separate locations: Boulder, Colorado Springs, Denver, and Aurora.

In 2004, the University of Colorado at Denver and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center were consolidated into a single administrative entity referred to as the University of Colorado Denver (legal name) or the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus. The campuses are referred to as CU Denver and CU Anschutz and each campus has its own Chancellor.

The university of Colorado campuses at Boulder and Colorado Springs each undergo separate accreditation, whereas the Denver and Anschutz campuses are accredited as a single entity.
