Welcome to the Center on Domestic Violence and our New Website!
We’re so glad you're here. We’ve been busy working to achieve our mission to end gender-based violence and the website was ignored for years, but now we’re back.
The launch of this new site also marks the beginning of a year-long celebration of our 20th Anniversary. [If site launches before 10/24/19 invite readers to attend]
Whether you’re new to CDV, an alum, a workshop participant, or a continuing supporter, we hope our new site engages you and communicates our mission, our passion, and our actions.
We at CDV believe that gender-based violence is rooted in two fundamental but false beliefs—that women and the feminine are of lesser value, and that holding power over others through the use of violence and harassment is acceptable.
Our mission is to challenge those beliefs. We are dedicated to building a culture of peace, respect and partnership, encouraging and valuing each person’s contribution to creating a safe and equitable society. We’ve spent the past 20 years in education, research, prevention and collaboration, connecting and educating individuals, organizations and communities to become agents for change. We continue our work today training leaders and fostering advocates in school, community and business organizations. So, we offer this new website as an invitation to join us in our efforts and to support you in advancing your own related goals.
The #MeToo movement and the Times Up organization have recently brought increased energy to dismantling the system of sexual assault and workplace harassment and abuse currently at play in our society. There is hope that change will take place more quickly than ever. Each of us is critical to creating that change. Please use the resources on the CDV site to more actively work toward our shared vision. You’ll find public education opportunities, training for school, corporate and health care staff, current research and much, much more. Our periodic blog will feature perspectives from staff, front-line service providers, legal experts, survivors, and researchers.
Each of us is an individual but we are all connected in defining the values of our culture, in the justice or injustice of our society, in the danger or safety of our communities. Each of you is a star, a unique point of gravity, energy and light that can influence our world.
We have chosen Many Stars – One Universe as our 20th Anniversary theme because we know that each of us, each “star,” is essential to ending gender-based violence. It is when we come together - when we recognize and leverage the power of our collective Universe – that true change can happen.
In that spirit of Many Stars – One Universe we are breaking a virtual champagne bottle on this website and launch our 20th year of service. We hope you will participate in one of the 20 anniversary celebration activities we have planned for the coming year.
We invite your feedback on this new site, on the Center’s current Academic Programs, Research [link] and Service [link]. We thank you for the support you have shown the Center in the past; we would not be thriving as we are today without your ongoing financial support. Your gifts allow the Center to continue driving the change we all seek: an end to gender-based violence and safe and caring homes, neighborhoods, communities and society.
