Goals

  • Cultivate a collegial campus culture focused on respect and civility
  • Assure a teaching and learning environment that invites, honors, and respects diverse viewpoints
  • Increase the diversity of faculty and staff across all levels of the organizational hierarchy
  • Enact principles of inclusive excellence

Accomplishments

2018-2019:

  • Reignited the Inclusive Campus Action Network to build a collaborative, cohesive, and inclusive culture of individuals and organizations
  • Convened Council on Diversity and Equity for Human Resources Practices
  • Created, in partnership with our tri-institutional partners, the Auraria Task Force on Urban Displacement and Gentrification of students, faculty, and staff to review policies and practices that acknowledge and address the Auraria Campus’s role in gentrification and urban displacement and to honor those who first lived in this space
  • Debuted Diversity Showcase with 44 tables, booths, and displays
  • Embraced #YouAreWelcomeHere campaign through the Denver Mayor’s Welcome, the Connect2Campus event, and the popular CU at the Table program
  • Ranked 8th (up from 11th prior year) in the U.S. by Military Times for Colleges Best in the Country for Vets
  • Engaged Association on Higher Education and Disability to conduct external program review

2017-2018:

  • Awarded one million dollars toward the Howard Hughes Medical Center Institute (HHMI) Inclusive Excellence grant that seeks to make the campus welcome and nurturing where culturally competent faculty, staff, and peer mentors support all students who seek a transformative education for meaningful careers in science.
  • Launched the CU Denver Free Expression site
  • Initiated Campus Conversations
  • Began CU at the Table to extend hospitality to our international students
