On January 7, 2021, Chancellor Michelle Marks announced the appointment of Marie Williams as CU Denver's next vice chancellor for university communications. The appointment followed a national search that began in September 2020.

The campus community was invited to provide their input on the desired traits in the new occupant of this position at a virtual forum and through a survey. Comments were shared with members of the search committee.
