Resources and Support for Lynx Community Members Affected by the Marshall Fire

Jan. 1, 2022

Dear Lynx community,

Our hearts continue to break as communities across Boulder County deal with the widespread devastation of the Marshall Fire. Thousands of our neighbors (including members of our own Lynx family) face a tremendously difficult road to recovery. I know that those of you who have been personally impacted have questions about available resources. I also know that many others are looking for ways to support these individuals and the broader recovery.

Get Help if Affected

First and foremost, CU Denver is here to help everyone in our Lynx family who has been personally affected.

If you are a student and have been affected by the fire, you are encouraged to apply for aid through our Loving Lynx Emergency Fund. I also encourage students to send any questions you may have about this resource (or others) to Senior Vice Chancellor for Strategic Enrollment and Student Success Monique L. Snowden, PhD (monique.l.snowden@ucdenver.edu).

If you are a faculty or staff member who has been affected, you are encouraged to apply for aid through the Marshall and Middle Fork Wildfire Emergency Fund.

Support Lynx in Need and the Broader Recovery

Our university also remains in close contact with the Boulder campus and the University of Colorado System to identify more ways we can collectively support all those inside and outside the Lynx family who have been impacted. Anyone who wishes to be part of these efforts and offer support can make contributions through the Loving Lynx Emergency Fund or visit Colorado Responds to find volunteer opportunities.

The Road Ahead

As the most destructive wildfire in Colorado’s history, the Marshall Fire is an unimaginable beginning to 2022. While I’m very grateful that there appears to be no loss of life, so many in our community and beyond have lost a great deal. There is a long road ahead to recovery with many challenges, some of which we are still learning about. We will continue to lean on each other to support those impacted and help our communities rebuild.

I hope this message finds you all safe and healthy in the new year.
