For Students:
Welcome to the Fall Semester!

Aug. 17, 2020

Dear Students,

In my 24 years of working at colleges, never did I think we would be welcoming back students to campus wearing masks, keeping physically distant from each other, and taking our temperature every day before arriving. In our lifetimes we have never experienced anything quite like COVID-19.

I am so happy that you’re at CU Denver this fall. Getting your college degree is just about the most important thing you can do for you and your family. It’s an investment in your future. The fact that you stand committed to your education, despite today’s challenges, says a lot about who you are as a person.

The Lynx spirit of dedication isn’t just reflected in our student body—our faculty and staff are completely committed to your success. Many CU Denver faculty have spent their summer figuring out how to make your courses stronger and better than ever. Our staff have have worked to make sure that student services are available wherever you are, so you get the help you need to navigate college.

In these difficult times, we’re asking you to do even more: Help keep your fellow students, faculty, and staff safe by wearing your face coverings, avoiding large gatherings, respecting social distancing on campus and staying home if you don’t feel well.

One more very important piece of advice for succeeding in college during a pandemic: If you need help, just ask. Our faculty and staff understand that many of you are dealing with hardships—struggles to make ends meet, find enough food, find quiet places to study, and psychological challenges that reflect the stress we are under. We can help and we want to help. Please reach out—to your instructors, advisor or to Lynx Central.

Our world needs you more than ever. To become our future healthcare providers who will keep us healthy, teachers to build the next generation, scientists who develop cures and preventions, engineers who build better and safer communities, artists who bring beauty and joy to our society, engaged citizens who work together to build a more civil, equitable society, and so much more. Our future is in your hands.

I’m delighted to be here with you, part of a #LynxStrong community that is building a better future.
