Chancellor's Communiqué

Interim Vice Chancellor of University Communications, 6-8-2020

Dear Colleagues,

I'm pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Klimczak as interim vice chancellor of university communications. Karen will oversee a team of communications professionals and our comprehensive strategy for advancing the image and reputation of the university, while also continuing in her role as assistant vice chancellor for marketing and brand strategy. Our previous vice chancellor, Leanna Clark, stepped down in late May to accept the position of president/CEO of the Girl Scouts of Colorado.

Karen brings decades of experience in higher education to the interim vice chancellor role, having worked in increasingly senior communications positions at Arizona State, Colorado State, and Willamette universities. Since joining our University Communications team in 2011, Karen has led efforts to support and advance student recruitment and enrollment by implementing branding, advertising, digital media, web strategy and content, and creative services. Her leadership was integral to launching the Milo the Lynx mascot program, establishing the CU in the City brand, and developing the award-winning Learn with Purpose campaign.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in significantly increased workload for many units, including the communications team. We're grateful to Karen for stepping into the interim vice chancellor position during this exceedingly busy time. Please join me in welcoming her in this role.
